Protima was a trained classical dancer and was trained in Bharatanatyam, Kathak, and Odissi. She was also a model and appeared in several advertisements. Protima was married to Kabir Bedi, an actor, and the couple had a daughter, Pooja Bedi. She was also involved in social activism and was a member of the Narmada Bachao Andolan, a movement to save the Narmada River. Protima Bedi passed away in 1998 due to a car accident.
